What to Write in a Sympathy Card
A sympathy card does not need to be long or perfectly worded. The most important thing is that it comes from the heart. A good message usually does three things: acknowledges the loss, says something kind about the person who died (or offers support if you didn't know them), and lets the family know you are there for them. Below are complete messages you can copy directly, or use as a starting point and personalise with a name or a memory. If you are signing on behalf of a family or group, add all the names at the end.

- There are no words to ease the pain of losing someone so dear. Please know that you are surrounded by people who love you and want to help carry this burden.
- Although I did not have the privilege of knowing [name] well, I know how much he/she meant to you. I am thinking of you and your family with great tenderness.
- Please accept my deepest condolences. In the difficult days ahead, lean on those who love you, and count me among them.
